Topshop Coming to Fifth Ave.

Topshop (London) has signed a lease for a 40,000-square-foot flagship at the corner of 49th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York. Currently occupied by Lacoste (New York), the store will also carry the Topman brand, along with exclusives, collaborations and mainline collections.

The lower area of the store is set to have a contemporary feel, while upper stories of the building will feature Art Deco detailing. The wraparound window on the building will also play into the design.

Set to open on Halloween, the new location is in close proximity of other luxury retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Michael Kors, Henne & Mauritz and Ted Baker.

Philip Green, the owner of Topshop, told Women’s Wear Daily that he plans to revamp the brand’s already existing location on Broadway as well.

Along with the Fifth Avenue unit, Topshop will open four stores in the next 12 months which include San Diego, Houston, Washington D.C. and Atlanta.

Green sold 25 percent stake in the company to Leonard Green & Partners in 2012 with the aim of faster expansion within the U.S. Green openly stated that he will be investing $40-50 million in building and designing the new locations.
