More Retailers to Open Thanksgiving Day

Toys “R” Us Inc. (Wayne, N.J.) is one of the latest retailers to announce Black Friday hours. The toy retailer will be opening the evening of Thanksgiving at 5 p.m. and will remain open until 11 p.m. on Black Friday.

JCPenney (Plano, Texas) also announced an aggressive Thanksgiving Day opening. The department store chain will be opening nationwide at 3 p.m. Thursday and will stay open through the night into Black Friday.

The Dallas Morning News reports that JCPenney’s opening is two hours earlier than its previous earliest opening last year. The chain has announced it will increase employee pay for the holiday and will staff the store with employees who volunteer to work on Thanksgiving Day.

Target Corp. (Minneapolis) will also be open Thanksgiving Day nationwide for Black Friday sales. The stores will open at 6 p.m. on Thursday and will remain open until 11 p.m. Friday night.

Retailing Today reports that Target is also launching a new program this year called “10 Days of Deals.” Stores will offer customers extra daily discounts from Nov. 22 through Dec. 1 on electronics, toys, kitchenware and other items.
