Turn Up the Radio

RadioShack Corp. (Fort Worth, Texas) announced a 19 percent gain in net income for the second quarter ended June 30, 2004.

Total sales and same-store sales were both up 3 percent for the quarter. Second quarter wireless communications department sales were up 16 percent.

“Strong wireless and computer department sales along with greater productivity positively impacted our bottom line,” said chairman and ceo Leonard Roberts, announcing that the retailer has raised its 2004 earnings per share guidance above its previous forecast. “We are very bullish on the long-term outlook for RadioShack. Our sound operations today coupled with exciting growth initiatives that are starting to gain traction make for a very promising future for years to come.”
