Uniqlo Reports Double-Digit Sales Increase

Uniqlo, the Japanese fast-fashion retailer, reported May 2009 same-store sales increased 18.3 percent compared to last year, while sales at directly-managed stores (existing stores plus locations open less than a year) increased by 25.5 percent. Total sales including direct sales increased by 25.7 percent.

During this time period, the fashion retailer opened 4 stores and closed 2. Women’s Wear Daily reports that Uniqlo plans to open a Paris flagship this fall, located on Rue Scribe.

The company also announced that model Agyness Deyn has signed a contract as the new face of Uniqlo Sport. “Agyness reflects a fresh, youthful and vibrant side of life, which was perfect for the campaign,” Amy Howarth, head of press and marketing at Uniqlo in the U.K., told WWD.
