Apple (Cupertino, Cali.) has unveiled a new store in New York’s Upper East Side that looks distinctly different from its typical store designs.
This location is situated in part of a Beaux Arts building that originally housed a bank in the 1920s. The company wanted to play homage to the building’s roots, so it sought to restore some of the building’s original features and details. For instance, the original chandeliers found in old photographs of the building were reproduced, the marble floors were restored and the old bank vault was converted into a VIP showroom within the store.
According to The Associated Press, Apple introduced this unique store design as a way to keep its stores distinct, even from each other. The company plans to include those one-of-a-kind details when possible in additional store launches or remodels.
The new store opened on Saturday and is Apple’s 266th U.S. store.
