United Audio Centers

Dedicated to shoppers with a keen ear, the new United Audio Center store on Michigan Avenue appeals to the sense of sight, as well. Taking advantage of a corner entry on the atrium, the storefront is infused with signage and identity graphics and offers a sneak preview of what's in-store. A plasma-screen vignette (to the right) alludes to a residential setting while showcasing the new technology. Inside, a varied material palette identifies distinct areas. For example, a cherry-and-metal soffit and carpet pattern is used in the showroom areas, while a curved maple wall isolates a Bose product display. A blue soffit guides the eye to the sound studios/home theater areas. Here, a dynamic palette of blue-white light, metal and glass symbolizes the excitement of technology. But the use of blonde, charcoal and red woods softens the look. A beam of light draws the eye to the store's logo and cashwrap at the center. The cashwrap is merchandisable and provides work areas for the salespeople. To its right, a custom-designed area is used for consultations; to the left, a glass storefront invites views into a sound studio.
