U.S. Retail Sales Top Forecasts

Retail sales rose for a third consecutive month in March as favorable weather and auto incentives encouraged more spending, according to the Commerce Department.
In the report, the Commerce Department says sales rose 1.6 percent last month, beating analysts’ predictions of a 1.2 percent gain. Excluding autos, sales rose 0.6 percent.

Among sectors, car dealers, home furnishing, building suppliers, clothing retailers and general merchandise retailers saw sales rise.
