Value City Holds its Own

Value City Department Stores (Columbus, Ohio) announced that net sales increased 4.4 percent from a year ago for the third quarter ended Nov. 3, 2001. Same-store sales decreased 0.7 percent.

Year-to-date for the 39 weeks ended on November 3, net sales increased 6.5 percent and same-store sales declined 3.0 percent.

The retailer operates 118 Value City Department Stores, 100 DSW Shoe Warehouses and 20 Filene's Basements. Its overall store count is 11 percent higher than a year ago.
