Yesterday, Virgin Megastores (New York) began marking the closing of its iconic Times Square store with the biggest sale in music retail history.
“This sale will give our loyal shoppers one last chance to browse the world's largest music store,” says Simon Wright, ceo of Virgin Entertainment Group. “We'll be offering discount prices on items that might be difficult to find in the days to come, and we hope our customers have a lot of fun shopping this final sale.”
The Times Square Virgin Megastore opened its doors in April 1996. In August 2007, Related Cos. and Vornado formed a joint venture to buy the Virgin Entertainment Group North America, and then last summer, announced it would close the Times Square location. The company plans to lease the space to trendy fashion apparel brand Forever 21, which will open its largest store to date in the space.
