Walmart Canada Names New Ceo

On Friday, Walmart Stores Inc. (Bentonville, Ark.), named Dirk Van den Berghe president and chief executive officer of Walmart Canada. Van den Berghe will assume the post in August and report directly to Shelley Broader, who was recently promoted to president and ceo of Walmart’s EMEA region, which comprises operations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada.

Van den Berghe has 30 years of international retail experience, according to Women’s Wear Daily. Most recently, Van den Berghe worked at the Delhaize Group, a global food retailer with operations in eight countries and three continents. In a company statement, Broader said Van den Berghe’s “vast experience will allow us to strengthen our growing food business in Canada and complements our highly-successful general merchandise operation.”
