Wal-Mart Expands Appliance Offering

Wal-Mart (Bentonville, Ark.) is increasing the General Electric appliance offerings in more of its stores after a test run in late August proved to be successful. The retailer began selling ranges, refrigerators and other large GE appliances at 12 stores in Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas, with plans to re-evaluate sales after 90 days.

Appliance sales proved solid during the trial period, inciting the move to open appliance centers in 88 more Wal-Mart stores by spring. The centers occupy 900 square feet at the front of the stores, offering 15 display appliances and 45 additional appliances available for delivery. The entire GE line is available for ordering through kiosks.
