Walmart Stores Inc. (Bentonville, Ark.) has named David Cheesewright, currently president of several overseas divisions, to succeed Doug McMillon as head of the company’s international operations.

McMillon has recently been named Walmart’s new ceo.

Cheesewright has been in charge of the retailer’s operations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada. As ceo of Walmart Canada, he oversaw the expansion of Walmart supercenters. He also helped develop and expand online grocery delivery at Asda, Walmart’s operations in Britain. And he serves on the board of Yihaodian, Walmart’s e-commerce business in China,.

He first joined Walmart’s British operations in 1999. He will start in his new position at the beginning of February 2014, when McMillon steps up to  replace Michael Duke, the ceo who is retiring.
