As earlier reported, Nordstrom Inc. (Seattle) has begun construction on its new store at The Village of Merrick Park (Coral Gables, Fla.). The 200,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2002.
It is the third of a five-store onslaught into the Sunshine State that Nordstrom has launched since arriving last year at Town Center at Boca Raton. A second store will open in Tampa at International Plaza on September 14. And the fourth and fifth stores are planned for Orlando (2002) and Wellington Green (2003).
Nordstrom at The Village of Merrick Park will have a stucco facade that resembles a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean design. Other accents include ornamental ironworks in the store's gates, railings and balconies. A lit tower beacon will serve as a prominent design feature anchoring the store and project at the corner of Ponce de Leon and Avenue San Lorenzo.
The main floor of the store will feature Cosmetics, Accessories, Jewelry, Women's Shoes, Salon Shoes, Brass Plum Shoes, and Handbags. Men's Shoes and apparel, including suits, sportswear and furnishings, will also be located on the main floor. The store will feature an Espresso Bar that offers pastries and specialty coffee drinks.
The second floor will be devoted entirely to women's apparel and will include Point of View, Studio 121, Women's Faconnable, St. John and Narrative. Modern and fashion forward apparel will be featured in such departments as Individualist, T.B.D., Savvy, “via C,” Couture and Collectors. Special Occasion and Petite Focus will complete the second floor offering.
The third floor will feature Gift Gallery, women's and children's apparel including Brass Plum (juniors), Encore (plus sizes), Personal Touch, Lingerie, Women's Hosiery, Women's Activewear, Children's Shoes and Kids'Wear. A Cafe will offers a selection of fresh salads and sandwiches.
