Window Wars

Art and industry were celebrated this summer during Project Windows, Chicago’s interactive window design contest which invited art lovers, fashionistas, designers, Chicagoans and city visitors to indulge in a unique shopping experience.  

Oak Street Design (Chicago) enlisted more than 40 downtown Chicago retailers to create special windows inspired by “Impressionism & Fashion,” the Art Institute of Chicago’s summer exhibition, which is open through September.

The public was invited to vote online for their favorite displays while the judges’ panel included art, retail and design veterans. The winners are:

Best story or theme: Tiffany & Co. (New York)
Best use of color: Marc Jacobs (New York)
Best use of light: Emporio Armani (Milan)
Best use of materials: P.O.S.H. (Chicago)
Most glamorous: Saks Fifth Avenue (New York)
Most classic: Ralph Lauren (New York)
Most modern: Zara (New York)
Attention to detail: Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland (Zurich)
Art institute of Chicago award: Atelier AZZA (Chicago)
People's choice: La Perla (Bologna, Italy)
