82% of Shoppers Prefer to Buy Groceries in Physical Stores

A new survey found that 82% of grocery shoppers and 76% of pharmacy customers purchase products primarily in-store, affirming the significant role that physical stores play in two key retail verticals.

The findings were from “Decoding Consumer Affinity,” a survey of more than 2000 U.S. consumers conducted by Pymnts and Toshiba.

The sampling also revealed that 48% of grocery shoppers purchase products from three or more merchants, 36% shop at two merchants and 16% relegate their food shopping to just one merchant. For pharmaceutical customers, those numbers are 56%, 25% and 18%, respectively.
