Aldi Introduces New Store Format

Aldi (Essen, Germany) is introducing a new store design in Australia. This is the first time that the retailer has introduced a new store format since it debuted in the country 14 years ago.

The new store design, which has been tested in four stores over the past six months and is being called “Project Fresh,” is an effort to modernize the brand. The design incorporates light wood paneling and new graphics. In one of the test stores, the design includes large, silver freezer cabinets that display fresh produce at the front of the store, rather than at the rear, as in the traditional layout.

Aldi will be opening four additional stores in the country with the new layout but has not made any final decisions about whether it will be rolling it out to additional stores, including those outside of Australia, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.
