Aldi Seeks Smaller Stores

Off-price grocery chain Aldi (Essen, Germany) is hoping to expand in London with smaller spaces designed to lure urban shoppers, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Magazine (RAC) reports. Aldi’s retail spaces are typically 15,000 square feet, but the discounter is seeking 6000-8000-square-foot venues with high foot traffic in areas convenient to public transportation.

In addition, the company plans to open mid-sized, 10,000-square-foot stores, with adjacent parking lots for 30-40 cars, according to RAC.
