Alexander Wang Opens First European Flagship

Alexander Wang Inc. (New York) has opened the retailer’s largest flagship, located in London’s Mayfair neighborhood on Albemarle Street. It is also its first freestanding store in Europe.

The 6700-square-foot store was designed in collaboration with Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen. Housed in a former post-office building, the store features a variety of juxtaposed materials, such as distressed chrome and recycled rubber alongside Travertine and a rare form of marble, reports Wallpaper.

“Alexander wanted the unexpected,” Van Duysen said. “There are very contradictory forms and in that way it's a shop that reflects his methodology as a fashion designer.”

According to Vogue, the multilevel store allows the designer to showcase entire collections from all categories under one roof, including housewares and accessories. The retailer’s New York flagship is not large enough to accommodate that variety.
