Amazon Expands Same-Day Delivery in New York, Chicago

Amazon.com Inc. (Seattle) is launching free same-day delivery in the Bronx area of New York and in the South Side community in Chicago. The Bronx was the only New York borough excluded from the service area.

Bloomberg Technology explains the move comes in response to criticisms that the company unfairly offered the service to some communities in the cities while failing the offer the services in minority communities.

Amazon currently offers free same-day shipping as a perk for Amazon Prime members in 27 metro areas. The company utilized the concentration of Prime members in each community, proximity to warehouses and the ability to find shipping partners to determine service area boundaries.
