American Eagle Q2 Growth

American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (Pittsburgh) posted its second-quarter earnings, which included an increase in total revenues of 12 percent to $797 million.

The retailer saw gains in other areas including gross profits (an increase of 20 percent), gross margin (rising to 35.7 percent), operating income (increasing by $41 million from last year) and total merchandise inventories (increasing by 4 percent).

Comparable sales also increased by 11 percent, compared to last year when the retailer experienced a 7 percent decline in sales.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, the increases are a result of various changes the retailer has made recently to revitalize the business. The company anticipates gains to continue for the third quarter, as well.
