COVID-19: Apple’s China Stores Close for Coronavirus

Apple (Cupertino, Calif.) is closing all 42 of its stores in mainland China amid the rapid spread of Coronavirus, which has caused a death toll of 259.

The company will close its stores, corporate offices and contact centers in the region until Feb. 9, heeding the advice of leading health experts, according to The New York Times.

Apple will continue to sell its products online.

After a lucrative holiday season increased Apple stock prices to new highs, the spreading virus has caused stocks to drop 4 percent. Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives predicts that the shutdown of brick-and-mortar stores in China will only cause the annual iPhone sales to drop by 3 percent due to the online availability of the product, says The New York Times.
