Bebe Lays Off 700 Employees

Bebe (Brisbane, Calif.) plans to layoff 717 employees, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

The cuts will be effective May 27, according to a notice the company filed with the state employment department. The cuts include 136 positions at its corporate headquarters and 160 positions at its design office in Los Angeles. There will also be 35 layoffs at stores throughout the state of California.

The news comes as the retailer confirmed last week that it will close 21 stores, which will cost the company $9.4 million in impairment charges and landlord termination fees. It is exploring options regarding its remaining stores.
