British Invasion

Wal-Mart Stores (Bentonville, Ark.) said it would invest $675 million to build 13 Asda supermarkets in Britain. Asda is the 241-store chain Wal-Mart bought in 1998 and has been on an aggressive growth campaign. It's now the second-largest British supermarket chain in sales volume (behind Tesco).
