Shoppers – parents and children alike – actually enjoy doing back-to-school shopping together. That surprising and reassuring bit of news for retailers was a result of a national survey recently conducted by the Mall of America (Minneapolis) among parents with children between the ages of 7 and 18.

Among the positive responses, 21 percent described the annual ritual as “always enjoyable” and 16 percent said it was “a bonding experience.” Half the respondents called back-to-school shopping with their children “a necessity” (26 percent) or “unpredictable” (24 percent).
