Cyber Monday Figures Drop

Although online shopping rose 8.1 percent during “Cyber Monday” this year, the figure is less than half of the sales growth seen on the Monday after Thanksgiving 2013. Last year, as many workers returned to their jobs and computers after the holiday weekend, sales spiked 17.5 percent over the usual Internet shopping traffic.

According to Bloomberg News, the drop-off can be attributed to an earlier start to the holiday shopping season, rather than a true decrease in online shopping. Amazon.com and other retailers launched online promotions in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. In fact, e-commerce Saturday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 23, grew 17 percent compared with weekend before Thanksgiving 2013.
