Dick's Sporting Goods (Pittsburgh) has announced that it will build a 75,000-square-foot, two-level anchor store at The Mall at Robinson in its hometown area. It joins Kaufmann's, Sears and JC Penney as mall anchors, with a fifth planned.
The 1.2 million-square-foot, $130 million shopping center is currently under construction at Parkway West and Highway 60 in Robinson Township, with an October opening slated. It is being developed by Forest City Enterprises, Inc. (Cleveland), partner in Robinson Mall-JCP Associated, Ltd.
“Our Mall at Robinson store will be one of the largest in our 107-store chain,” said Dick's president Ed Stack. “We will also be unveiling a totally new store design, the first of its kind nationwide.” The store will feature a Pro-Shop, a Sportsman's Lodge and a completely redesigned women's area, in addition to what Stack called “other surprise elements.” Dick's stores average about 50,000 square feet and generally contain smaller shops featuring sporting goods, apparel and footwear, for pursuits ranging from football and golf to hunting and camping. There are currently 107 stores in 20 states, with 20 of the stores in Pennsylvania — seven of those in Pittsburgh.
