Dillard’s Sales on the Rise

Dillard’s Inc. (Little Rock, Ark.) reported a 23.9 percent increase in sales for the first quarter, according to Women’s Wear Daily, after cutting expenses and closely managing inventory. Same-store sales rose 5 percent in the same period. However, the company is still slated to close a Hutchinson, Kan., department store in the current quarter, and currently has 287 department stores, along with 17 clearance outlets.
