Dollar General’s Strong Sales

Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) reported first-quarter sales rose 16 percent while same-store sales increased 13 percent. Looking at product categories, the retailer says sales of consumables grew 19 percent; seasonal goods sales rose 11 percent.

The discount retailer plans to open 450 stores this year. In 2007, the company was acquired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., a private equity firm.
