Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (Winston-Salem, N.C.) has opened its first store outside North America, in the Sydney, Australia, suburb of Penrith. Over the next five years, the company plans to open 30 additional stores in Australia and New Zealand.

“This is a landmark event in Krispy Kreme's history,” says Scott Livengood, the company's chairman, president and ceo. “We are delighted to bring Krispy Kreme to Australia and mark the beginning of our expansion outside of North America.”

Founded in 1937, Krispy Kreme sells premium-quality doughnuts, including its signature Hot Original Glazed. In addition to its new outlet in Australia, the company operates more than 290 stores in the U.S. and Canada.
