Business Briefs:


ShopKo Stores Inc. (Green Bay, Wis., retail operator) has entered into a strategic partnership with Daymon Associates (Stamford, Conn., sales and marketing firm) to seek private-label development in consumables, health and beauty aids and household commodities.

NIR Inc. (Portland, Ore., fixture designer and manufacturer) has opened a NIR U.K. Office in Slough Estates, near London. Greg Windell has been named director of international operations for the office and Diana Fridly has been appointed account manager.

Dickson Media Fabrics (St. Clair, France, coated fabrics manufacturer) has opened a U.S.-based division in Atlanta under the name Dickson Coatings USA. The division specializes in weave and coat fabrics for the digital printing and screen printing markets.

Focus Packaging & Display Group (San Diego lighting and signage designer and manufacturer) has hired Balance Inc. (Newtown, Conn., manufacturers representative firm) to represent the company on the East Coast.

AkarStudios (Santa Monica, Calif., design firm) has been hired by Birkenstock to design the footwear company's newest shop-in-shop concept. The new design is expected to launch in spring 2004.

Pratt Group West (Tustin, Calif., regional office of Pratt Corp., p-o-p and visual merchandising graphic solutions company) was retained by Wyland Worldwide to project manage its prototype Wyland Studio Store at the Navy Exchange at Pearl Harbor. The store was the first of several outlets selling art and gifts by marine life artist Wyland.

Kent Displays (Kent, Ohio, LCD technology manufacturer) has entered into a licensing agreement with Eastman Kodak Co. (Rochester, N.Y., multifaceted imaging company) for its Cholesteric “No Power” LCD technology. Kodak will use the license to develop new display applications and products.

RTKL Associates Inc. (Coral Gables, Fla., architecture and design firm) recently completed the design of Westye Group Southeast's new regional sales offices and showrooms in Orlando and Atlanta. The firm previously designed the appliance distributor's 8000-square-foot facility in Hollywood, Fla.


Awards & Competitions:


Dillion Works! (Mukilteo, Wash., custom architectural elements designer and manufacturer) was awarded the 2003 “Best Custom Fabricator” award by the Society of Environmental Graphic Design.
