Funko Plans Flagship Store

Toy retailer Funko (Everett,  Wash.) will be expanding its headquarters and opening its first flagship store. The news comes as the company has experienced year-over-year business growth since 2005.

"We've never had a year where we slipped backward,” Chief Executive Officer Brian Mariotti said, “but the last five years the growth has been exponential. A lot of that is because pop culture, as a whole, has changed."

As pop culture has changed, more customers have become interested in the company’s products, which feature popular brands and characters such as Marvel (New York) and Mattel (El Segundo, Calif.) characters.

While the company only employed three people in 2005, today more than 350 employees work for it. Consequently, the company is expanding its headquarters. It will also add a 17,000-square-foot store that will be positioned as a tourist destination and is slated to open later this summer, reports KING 5.
