John Lewis Partnership Inks Deal with Alphabet Inc.

John Lewis Partnership (London) has reportedly entered a five-year agreement – a deal worth 100 million pounds or roughly $127 million USD – with Alphabet Inc.’s (Mountain View, Calif.) Google Cloud, Reuters reports.

The department store retailer plans to utilize Google Cloud’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools to enable more efficiency at the store level and allow workers to spend more time with customers, as well as to better curate services and products in store.

Google Cloud recently entered into a similar partnership with another European retailer, Kingfisher, this past November.

John Lewis Partnership is an employee-owned partnership which operates Waitrose supermarkets and John Lewis department stores.
