Julie Greiner to Head Macy’s Florida

Julie Greiner, a senior executive vp with Bloomingdale’s, the New York-based division of Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati), has been named chairman and ceo of Federated’s 61-store Macy’s Florida division, effective July 31, 2005.

Greiner, who has served as Bloomingdale’s director of stores since April 1998, succeeds Timothy Adams in Miami. Adams was recently named chairman and ceo of Macy’s Home Store.

“Julie Greiner is an exceptionally talented and creative executive who has distinguished herself at Bloomingdale’s and led its stores organization through a period of significant growth,” said Federated vice chair Susan Kronick, to whom Macy’s Florida reports. “The Macy’s Florida organization will be inspired by her passion and energy for providing our customer with distinctive merchandise assortments, outstanding service and a compelling shopping experience.”

Greiner joined Bloomingdale’s in October 1993 as vp, dmm for domestics. She was promoted to senior vp, home furnishings, in October 1995; executive vp, director of stores, in April 1998; and to her current position in April 2004. She began her retailing career in 1975 as an executive trainee at J. W. Robinson’s (later Robinsons-May) in Los Angeles, and over the next 18 years rose through positions of increasing responsibility in the merchandising and stores organizations.

Federated also announced a 3.1 percent total sales increase for the five weeks ended July 2, 2005. Same-store sales were up 2.9 percent.

For the first 22 weeks of fiscal 2005, Federated’s sales have gained 2.3 percent, as have same-stores sales. The department store retailer said it expects a 1 – 2 percent same-store sales increase for the month of July, with second quarter same-store sales anticipated to increase by 1.5 – 2 percent. And the company continues to anticipate that same-store sales for the fall season (combined third and fourth quarters) will increase by 3 percent.
