Lowe’s to Open First Manhattan Stores

Lowe’s Cos. (Mooresville, N.C.) is planning to open two Manhattan stores in the second half of 2015, marking the hardware retailer’s debut in the borough. Both 30000-square-foot units will be located on the Upper West Side, one at 2008 Broadway and one in Chelsea.

Manhattanites already shop with Lowe’s online and at other Manhattan area locations; the only other large-scale hardware chain on the island is Home Depot, reports Crain’s New York Business.

Although it’s expensive to operate such a large store in Manhattan, Faith Hope Consolo, chairman of the retail group at Douglas Elliman Real Estate, says the Upper West Side is ripe with residents and Chelsea is one of the city's fastest-growing neighborhoods, according to Crain’s.
