LSI/Gene Moore Awards

“Winter Days,” a Cole Haan window display that used lighting to evoke the cozy world of an Aspen ski resort, took the grand prize in this year’s Lighting Services Inc/Gene Moore Awards competition. The winning design was created by lighting designer Adam Hayes and Cole Haan’s in-house team of Meiling Leung, Gavin Green and Wolfgang Assman.

Lighting Services Inc (LSI), the Stony Point, N.Y., designer and manufacturer of lighting equipment, conducts the awards program to “recognize the talent, creativity and magic of display window designers and their ability to create a three-dimensional art form.” The 15th annual competition, named in honor of Gene Moore, the longtime, award-winning display mastermind at Tiffany & Co., requires use of LSI’s products in an imaginative way to accentuate retail display windows, establish store image and motivate shoppers.

The winning Cole Haan display, at its Fifth Avenue store in New York, incorporated LSI’s 290 Series (line voltage-PAR38) and 36 Series (low voltage-AR111) fixtures and spread lenses, which worked in concert to emphasize the contrast between the warm wood tones of the merchandise display in the foreground with the chilly winter scene in the background.

The Shreve, Crump & Low jewelry store in Boston was the site of this year’s two other winning entries, and both displays were created by Lucy-Ann Bouwman, visual display director. Second place went to “Paper Shoes,” which featured a tribute to textile designer Jennifer Collier and used LSI’s 216 Series fixtures (low voltage MR-16s) and glass filters. Third place went to Bouwman’s “Seashells” display, which featured a boat encrusted with delicate seashells and complemented with dangling diamond starfish “bait.” The display utilized LSI’s 216 Series fixtures (low voltage MR-16s) and glass filters.
