Macy’s Herald Square Renovation Brings Luxury Hard Shops

The side-by-side, multi-level shops will soar three levels, span a city block and frame the main Broadway entrance. They are expected to open for the 2012 holiday season.

As part of the renovation of its historic New York Herald Square flagship, Macy’s Inc. (Cincinnati) plans to turn the main floor into a dramatic centerpiece with multi-level shop-in-shops from some of the world’s most iconic brands, including Gucci, Burberry and Longchamp.

“With the historic remodel of Macy’s Herald Square, we are proud to welcome the world’s leading brands in luxury goods – Gucci, Burberry and Longchamp to our flagship for the first time,” says Terry Lundgren, Macy’s Inc. chairman, president and ceo. “Our goal is for Macy's Herald Square to be not just the largest store, but the most exciting, most innovative, and most technologically-advanced fashion destination in the world.”

As part of the four-year, $400 million remodel, each shop will be customized with structural details and bring sweeping staircases and elevators, enhancing the customer experience within each shop.

• The Italian luxury brand Gucci will open its first-ever shop within Macy’s Herald Square in a custom three-level space. The new shop will span 6000 square feet and feature a luxurious staircase and two-story façade.

• Burberry’s three-level, 3600-square-foot store will feature large and small leather goods, as well as heritage rainwear. Digitally advanced and true to form, the store will feature a two-story façade, which will incorporate the latest technology to project live feeds from seasonal runway shows and stream brand content.

• French brand Longchamp will also be a new addition to Macy’s Herald Square. The 2-level space will house an assortment of handbags and leather goods to its 1500 square foot in-store shop.
