Macy’s Sales Drop in November

Macy’s Inc. (Cincinnati) reports total sales dropped 0.6 percent to $2.4 billion for the four weeks ended November 24. On a same-store basis, Macy’s sales declined 0.7 percent in November.

“Despite the largest-volume Thanksgiving weekend in our company’s history, we were not able to overcome the weak start to the month, which included the disruption of Hurricane Sandy,” says Terry Lundgren, chairman, president and ceo, Macy’s, Inc. “Yet we remain on track to deliver a very strong sales performance in the fourth quarter, consistent with our guidance.

For the year to date, Macy’s sales total is up 3.2 percent and same-store basis are strong at 3.1 percent. Online sales (which are included in same-store sales calculations) are up 39.2 percent in November and 37.1 percent in 2012 year-to-date.
