Paul Olszewski made his debut as director of windows for Macy's Herald Square with “It's Christmas Time in the City,” a pop-up book-inspired display that had six New York-themed stories unfolding before gawkers eyes.
“These were my first Christmas windows with Macy's,” he said, “so I wanted them to be special.”
Each window told a story of Christmas in New York, including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Rockettes and Rockefeller Center. Over a two-and-a-half-minute segment, the centerpiece giant pop-up book unfolded, walls and ceilings opened up and lighting and sound were choreographed via computer to accompany the show.
