Mail-Order Gem

Just in time for the holidays, Sears, Roebuck and Co. (Hoffman Estates, Ill., retailer) has released a new fine jewelry catalog, featuring more than 1000 items. The catalog marks the newest option for customers to shop for Sears'fine jewelry and watches. “Today's customers are time starved,” says Dennis Honon, vp of Sears Customer Direct. “Our new fine jewelry catalog enables customers to shop Sears any way they wish: stop in, log on or browse the catalog and call us.”

Sears is the top-selling U.S. retailer for certified diamonds and has been selling watches and jewelry since 1888. Items in the catalog range from $19.99 to $1999.99 and include products from categories such as diamonds, gemstones, gold, cubic zirconia, sterling silver and watches. Most catalog items also can be found in Sears stores and online.

The catalog puts fine jewelry and watches in ranks with the retailer's Craftsman tools collection as products that can be purchased in three different ways. In fall 2001, Sears launched its fine jewelry online and has since expanded its product offerings from 300 to 1000 items. The new catalogs are being mailed to customers this fall and also are available at Sears jewelry counters.
