Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue Plan Puerto Rican Debut

Two of the biggest names in U.S. luxury fashion specialty retailing have agreed to open their first stores in Puerto Rico. Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue have signed letters of intent to anchor Taubman Centers’ planned Plaza Internacional shopping center in San Juan.

The department stores will be just part of the draw in the mixed use complex. Taubman is partnering with New Century Development (San Juan) on the development which will include 650,000 square feet of retail space, including shops, restaurants and the two department stores, as well as a hotel and casino. A trade area that covers nearly two-thirds of Puerto Rico’s four-million population should be a major plus.
