OfficeMax Inc. (Naperville, Ill.) ceo and chairman Sam Duncan will retire from his position and the company’s board of directors on February 28, 2011. The board has begun a nationwide search for a new ceo and will consider both internal and external candidates. Duncan will continue in his role as chairman and ceo until the new ceo is in place.

He joined the office products and services company in 2005 and has completed a turnaround plan and weathered the financial downturn during his tenure. “I am proud of our accomplishments and the initiatives we have put in place and I have great confidence in the company's future,” says Duncan.

OfficeMax operates more than 1000 stores.
