CONVERSION – SPECIALTY STORE, SALES AREA OVER 10,000 SQUARE FEET
Primark, Oxford Street, London
Submitted by: Dalziel and Pow Design Consultants, London

Spread over four floors and 82,000 square feet, Primark’s conversion involved the merging of three landmark buildings to create one store. Each section of the interior is connected by a prominent, dark staircase and wide aisles to accommodate crowds.

“The way the ceiling and lighting are designed is the most successful at helping guide shoppers with a wayfinding system,” says judge Brent Hodge of Brent Hodge Design (Cincinnati).

In addition to commissioning a graffiti artist to distress a London Underground-inspired “tube train” used as a fixture in womenswear, Dalziel and Pow created bespoke maps listing additional Primark locations and landmarks nearby, with downloadable directions via QR codes, directing customers to the nearest open store.
