Petco Names New Execs, Restructures C-Suite

Petco (San Diego) has announced its plans to restructure and add new roles at the company as part of a new organization strategy. The retailer is making key appointments to its leadership team in the areas of product demand, pet and veterinary services as well as its e-commerce division.

Darren MacDonald, Petco’s current Chief Digital and Innovation Officer, will become Chief Customer Officer. MacDonald will lead both customer-focused teams and his digital team in growing the company’s omnichannel marketing, membership, loyalty, analytics and customer services.

Amy College, Chief Merchandising Officer, will take on an expanded role as head of demand planning for Petco. College’s resume includes formerly orchestrating demand planning for electronics retailer Best Buy.

Justin Tichy, Chief Pet Care Center Officer, has been appointed COO. Tichy will oversee company-wide logistics, including Petco’s more than 1400 Pet Care Centers in the U.S. and its distribution centers. He’s had experience in similar roles at Walmart, Target and Best Buy.

Jason Heffelfinger, Senior VP Services, has been promoted to Chief Services Officer. Heffelfinger was central in growing the company’s in-store, full-service veterinary services and grooming business. He also guided its acquisition of smaller veterinary hospitals and its investment in Thrive Pet Healthcare.

Mike Nuzzo, Chief Operating Officer and President of Services, will be leaving Petco after more than seven years with the company.

“These appointments and our organizational design are emblematic of our focus on putting the customer and data at the center of everything we do as we meet the customer need of a single partner for the health and wellness needs of their pet,” Petco CEO Ron Coughlin notes in the announcement.
