Prada to Accelerate Store Openings

Prada SpA (Milan) said it will be limiting the amount of merchandise that it sells through wholesale channels to department stores.

Instead, reported Bloomberg News, the company will step up efforts to open its own stores.

Prada has already opened 79 locations in the past 12 months and now has 540 worldwide.

Two months ago, ceo Patrizio Bertelli criticized department stores for being in “permanent end-of-season sales mode.”

Prada’s most recent new opening was in St. Petersburg, described by Bloomberg as having “marble floors, green velvet sofas and a spartan selection of wares.”
