Project Windows: Windows Design Contest 2014

CHICAGO (March 18, 2014) This summer over 50 of Chicago's top retailers from Michigan Avenue, Oak Street and the city's Loop neighborhood will participate in a visual competition in conjunction with the Art Institute of Chicago's upcoming blockbuster exhibition, Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926-1938. In celebration of one of the original forms of public art, retail window design, the contest will be judged by 12 professionals from the art, retail and design community. Winning scores will be based on basic design principles, craftsmanship and industry trends.

With Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926-1938 expected to be the largest cultural event of the summer in Chicago, many of the window displays will bring some of the 20th century's most extraordinary images into the spotlight.

Chicagoans and tourists from around the world will be invited to cast a vote for their favorite design on the Project Windows website at MichiganAveMag.com/ProjectWindows between June 30-July 22, 2014. The “Art Institute of Chicago Award” will be given to the retailer who best integrates the Magritte theme into their display.

The exhibition features over 100 paintings, collages, drawings, and objects, along with a selection of photographs, periodicals, and early commercial work by the provocative and highly regarded Belgian artist René Magritte (1898-1967).
