Opening on the site of a former Woolworth's, this store marks the upscale retailer's entry into the “Main Street” shopping movement. Store design by New York City's WalkerGroup/CNI, was designed to blend with the surroundings in historic Greenwich. Warm materials (such as cherry woods) in classic styles give the store the Saks character while melding it with the surrounding community. The centerpiece is a grand stairway, made of marble with a decorative bronze handrail, and lit by a 7-ft. bronze chandelier. Two of the store's front windows were designed to allow pedestrian traffic to see inside the store, enhancing the Main Street flavor.
