Saturday Delivers $23 Billion in Sales

This weekend’s retail sales figures were marginally higher than last year’s “Super Saturday” weekend sales figures, according to Customer Growth Partners (New Canaan, Conn.).  Weekend figures rose about 2 percent versus the same period last year, totaling roughly $42 billion. Saturday’s business alone totaled $23 billion, making it the biggest shopping day of the year so far and topping Black Friday’s $20 billion in sales, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

This year’s best-selling categories have included electronics, home products and toys, as well as automobiles and restaurants. Gift card sales have been robust as well, while apparel sales — with the exceptions of luxury, boots, outerwear, “athleisure” and men’s — have been generally lower than 2013 figures.
