Sears Continues to Close Operations

Sears (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) announced that it has plans to shutter various in-store operations, including 50 Sears Auto Centers and 92 underperforming Kmart pharmacies. The company has not announced which locations will be shuttered.

The closures come as part of the company’s strategic restructuring program that is being implemented as a way to save the company $1.25 billion in 2017. According to Dayton Daily News, Chief Executive Officer Edward Lampert called the closures “difficult yet necessary actions.”

He also said, “As we sharpen our focus on profitable areas of our business, we will also continue to closely evaluate the longer-term viability of stores where a clear path to return to profitability is not in sight.”
