Selfridges Plans Huge Women’s Accessories Dept.

Selfridges (London) has announced that it plans to become home to the world’s largest shopping area for women’s fashion accessories when it expands the handbag and accessories department in its London flagship to 60,000 square feet in size. This is roughly triple the department’s current size.

The company is collaborating with architect David Chipperfield to complete the expansion by 2018, when the single space will display and offer more than 70,000 items. There will be no internal dividing walls and will open up in three main phases over the next two years.

Meanwhile, the company is also giving its Duke Street exterior a facelift by tripling the height of its entrance, reports Belfast Telegraph.
