A week of Philadelphia Design District events igniting the senses
October 6th – 13th, 2018
OCTOBER: In conjunction with Design Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Design District recently announced its new series of events on the theme ‘Sensory Design’.
After the Premiere Showcase, which took place at the Bridge on Race in April 2018, officially launched the District with all ten members in one location, ‘Sensory Design’ was coordinated as a series of events to be hosted within each member’s showroom or gallery. The objective of the Philadelphia Design District is to offer visitors a fresh perspective on design and art in Philadelphia, with elevated showcases geared towards an audience of design fanatics and enthusiasts.
Sensory Design: How does design affect the senses? Does everyone share the same experience when faced with tantalizing design? Comfort, pleasure, awe, and excitement, are just a few ways design can impact us as individuals. Over the course of a week, galleries and showrooms provided unexpected and interactive experiences for ‘Sensory Design’ that explored personal sensations such as sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch.
The kick off for ‘Sensory Design’ took place on Saturday, October 6th, with an opening night, allowing guests an opportunity to discover and experience ten unique showcases hosted by the Philadelphia Design District members. Each offered an interpretation of the theme and featured guest designers, artists and architects. Visitors were treated to interactive performances, stimulating exhibitions, engaging demonstrations and fascinating experiences.
After the opening and throughout DesignPhiladelphia 2018, which ran from October 6th to October 13th, the Philadelphia Design District also hosted other happenings to draw the design community to Old City.
